THE MARVELOUS WONDERETTES

FLORIDA STUDIO THEATRE
Director / 2019
Picture
It’s 1958, and the Springfield High prom has unexpectedly lost its musical act. When called upon to take the stage, four girls with hopes and dreams as big as their crinoline skirts rally together to entertain their classmates in four-part harmony. An Off-Broadway hit, this cotton candy-colored musical features classic hits from the ‘50s and ‘60s like “It’s My Party,” “Lollipop,” “Son of a Preacher Man,” and “Mr. Sandman.”

REVIEWS

  • YOUROBSERVER:  Non-stop fun... Director Jason Cannon treats the campy, nostalgic material lovingly... The result is as sweet as a ride in the tunnel of love while wearing rose-colored glasses.
  • TOTAL THEATRE:  Bubbly and nostalgic, The Marvelous Wonderettes demonstrates particular summertime appeal to Sarasota’s and nearby senior residents and tourists.  But director Jason Cannon injects enough gentle ribbing into the characterizations performed to raise smiles from relative youngsters as well.
  • BROADWAY WORLD: The Marvelous Wonderettes, currently playing at Florida Studio Theatre under the direction of Jason Cannon. succeeds in providing its audience with a worry-free stroll down memory lane... full of powerhouse moments... In a show that could easily have "diva moments," the quartet displayed a wonderful balance and synergy that enhanced the production.
  • SARASOTA HERALD-TRIBUNE:  Sweet harmony... an appealing cast.
