GIDION'S KNOT

FLORIDA STUDIO THEATRE
Director / 2017
Picture
GIDION'S KNOT unfolds over the course of a 90-minute parent/teacher conference. A distraught mother and an emotionally overwhelmed fifth grade teacher have a fraught conversation about the mother’s son, the teacher’s student, Gidion. As his story is slowly uncovered, the women try to reconstruct a satisfying explanation and come to terms with excruciating feelings of culpability.

Sarasota Herald-Tribune:  Powerful and intimate...  There are moments when you might wish you could escape out the classroom door [and] that's a good thing... a taut production staged by Jason Cannon... The actresses draw you into the story with measured and believable performances that allow you to put yourself into their positions... Cannon keeps the tension high...

TotalTheater.com:  Director Jason Cannon has guided [the actresses] through wonderfully realistic portrayals.

The Observer: Well acted and well staged...
It’s great theater... The play’s boxing-ring rhythms alternate between long awkward silences and vicious sparring sessions. Jason Cannon’s direction is crisp — not a wasted moment or empty gesture. Outstanding performances, too... An entertaining evening, for tough-minded theatergoers who enjoy sinking their teeth into raw meat.

TalkinBroadway.com:
Director Jason Cannon brings an exciting production to the Stage III series... Overall excellence... There is no doubt in my mind that Florida Studio Theatre is onto something, reviving this series... Florida Studio Theatre has brought in two of our area's finest actresses, Kate Hampton as mother Corryn Fell and Katherine Michelle Tanner as teacher Heather Clark. These two women have worked with each other in the past, most recently at this same theater in Stalking the Bogeyman in supporting parts. The built-in chemistry is evident.
